'The View' can't see that Halloween is for Kids

Nov 01, 2022

This was a bad idea from conception through to execution! Taking adult news headlines and making children's halloween costumes, did anyone think this through? Read more here.

The American TV talk show called The View is under scrutiny for a specific halloween costume (the 'Oscar Slap') but I want to take it to a higher level. Yes, The View showed poor taste on the Oscar slap costume but the entire idea of creating children's costumes out of adult headlines is poor taste and completely off brand as an adult news talk show. Viewers are only calling out one costume, however none of them belong on our innocent, impresssionable children who should be focusing on collecting candy and wearing what they want to, not trying to understand why an adult thinks what they're wearing is funny. It's also horrible that the 'Oscar Slap' costume in question is using the mark and symbol of missing and murdered Indigenous women (red handprint).

So let me start this Brand Rewind moment with The View's wardrobe supervisor Ashley Alderfer Kaufman who is a new mother. Start with an apology about all of this and do your homework like you did when selecting the host's halloween costumes; this is an adult show. This idea also appears to lack due process which may have been why no one realized that the 'Oscar Slap' costume used a symbol representing missing and murdered children, again, do your homework. To the show producers and other's accountable for reviewing ideas and final production, review your process of vetting idea's for appropriateness and alignment with your show's mission statement and audience? This show contains adult content and at no point should be viewed by small children so why would we dress our children in our adult 'messes'? The only mess from halloween should be candy wrappers, not offensive and mis-guided adult costumes!
